Emotional Quotient And English Learning Achievement (A Correlation study of the third year students of STKIP Yayasan Abdi Pendidikan in 2018/2019 academic year)
Abstract
Emotional Quotient (EQ) or emotional intelligence is probably one of the important factor that affect the language learning. Thus, this study aimed to determine the relationship between Emotional Intelligence and Language Learning Achievement in the third year of students majoring in English from STKIP Abdi Pendidikan Payakumbuh. The population of this study was third year students from the English study program in STKIP Abdi Pendidikan Payakumbuh. Purposive sampling was applied in collecting the data with the total sample of 21 students. The research instruments were an adapted questionnaire named EQ-i (125) and student GPA documents. Then, the researcher correlated the results of the Bar-On EQ-i (125) and the GPA of students' language learning achievement using the Pearson Product Moment formula and the results of the correlation were converted using the Bungin category. After doing research, it was found that r table( 0.433) was less than r calculated (0.615). In other words, H1 was accepted and H0 was rejected. In relation to Correlation category , it has "A substantial positive association” which means that EQ has influence on English Learning Achievement for Third Year Students of STKIP Abdi Pendidikan Payakumbuh in 2018/2019 Academic while the the highest components that gave great influences were General mood and interpersonal.
